Hyatt Regency New Orleans Awarded Best Clean Team Partner

By M+E Staff

The Downtown Development District recently awarded Hyatt Regency New Orleans “Best Clean Team Partner” in the annual Downtown NOLA Awards. The award recognizes the hotel for its efforts in revitalizing and maintaining the Richard and Annette Block Cancer Survivors Plaza located across from the hotel on Loyola Avenue.

“The City of New Orleans has made such a strong recovery since the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the downtown area where Hyatt Regency New Orleans and the Richard and Annette Block Cancer Survivors Plaza are located is witnessing unprecedented economic growth,” said Michael Smith, general manager of Hyatt Regency New Orleans. “The park, still damaged from the storm nearly a decade later, was a negative symbol amidst a positive, blooming city. It was time to restore the plaza to the hopeful and inspiring space it had previously been.”

The park, originally dedicated in 1995 as a tribute to the living, has served as a tranquil space in New Orleans’ Central Business District. Last year, Smith took on the project and raised the necessary funds to fully restore the space. Fountains, custom-built columns and plaques, and the foliage have been reinstated and repaired. The Hyatt Regency New Orleans also adopted a stretch of Loyola Avenue that is home to the park and will provide maintenance, landscaping and security.
