HSMAI’s MEET West is coming to Anaheim for the second time since its debut in 2011. HSMAI’s MEET, which stands for Meetings, Events, Education and Technology, will include the HSMAI’s TEEM Up, HSMAI’s Attendee Concierge, HSMAI’s Exhibitior Concierge and HSMAI’s MEET University.

The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) is continuing its HSMAI’s MEET series in Anaheim. This will be the organization’s second series event of the year and will take place on May 29-30 at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel.

Due to the first event, MEET Mid-America show in Chicago, proving very successful, HSMAI decided to expand the program with MEET West, a beneficial face-to-face engagement and educational opportunity for exhibitors and planners.

Canada, Australia, Germany, France, China and South Korea each marked visitor increases of more than 20 percent in 2010 with the largest increase (60 percent) coming from South Korea, a new Visa waiver country where Korean Air operates a non-stop flight to Las Vegas from Seoul.

The giveback program was held in conjunction with a networking function at The Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch on Thursday, June 17. Through a raffle and FICP's Facebook campaign, the association raised $2,252 for Our Little Haven.

Dave Hinton, founder of hinton+grusich (h+g), has passed away.

A long-time figure of the hospitality and association community, Hinton served as president of hinton+grusich until his retirement in 2003.

Hinton began his hotel sales career in Washington, DC at The Shoreham Hotel in 1966. An entrepreneur by nature, he and colleague Bill Grusich, who serves as the firm's current president, launched hinton+grusich, one of the industry's first hotel sales representation firms, in 1986.

The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) has released a recommendation to its global membership calling for the temporary suspension of handshaking "until the H1N1 influenza virus threat has been reduced to the status of the common cold."

According to a statement issued by ACTE Executive Director Susan Gurley, temporarily eliminating the handshake from business travel may go a long way in reducing the person-to-person contact that spreads this variety of influenza.

The "Travel Promotion Act" was passed this week by the U.S. Senate to promote overseas tourism to the United States.

The MPI Foundation is celebrating 25 years of giving back to the global meetings and events industry.

This year, the MPI Foundation raised $1.7 million. It gave $175,000 away in chapter grants, increased chapter giving by more than 257% and increased CVB giving by 46%. The Foundation has invested more than $1.1 million in programs such as the Global Certificate in Meetings Operation, the CMP Online Study Guide and research like Event View and The Canadian Economic Impact Study.
