Frontier Drive-Inn in the San Luis Valley town of Center unveiled new accommodations this summer. These include eight Quonset hut suites (half-circle, prefabricated, metal arch structures), five Airstream trailers, 20 recreational vehicle sites, and seven campsites, among others.
Originally opened in 1955 as the Frontier Drive-In, this cultural stalwart of San Luis Valley was closed in 1984, reopened in 2016, and then transformed into a “Drive-Inn” in 2022, adding overnight accommodations to its offerings. It now focuses on offering attendees a curated desert experience—current offerings include “Skylos,” 3D-printed, beehive-shaped adobe structures joined in pairs and with open roofs, perfect for late-night stargazing. All RV sites and campsites feature shared, spa-style bathrooms, and the RV sites are equipped with water, gas, and sewer hookups.

“When we opened Frontier Drive-Inn in 2022, we had a vision for what we wanted the next phase to look like, and we are thrilled to now be unveiling that vision this summer,” says property co-owner Luke Falcone, in a prepared statement. “These new accommodations offer more options for families and groups, as well as campers and road warriors looking for a unique experience.”
The inn partnered with custom airstream trailer and camper designers Nomadicana of Salt Lake City to renovate five vintage Airstream trailers for overnight stays. Each trailer has a queen-size bed, kitchenette, an en suite bathroom, heating, and air-conditioning. The trailers also will feature desert-inspired graffiti art.
Just a few minutes away in downtown Center, Frontier Drive-Inn also manages four apartment-style rooms for planners or attendees looking for a bit more space. These rooms keep with the inn’s theme, as they are located above the newly renovated Center Theater, and each feature a queen-size bed, full-size kitchen, and sitting area.
This is all, of course, in addition to its offerings as a drive-in movie theater. Movies are not announced prior to booking, but requests can be made for special rating requirements for attendees traveling with children.
