TECHNOLOGY HAS BECOME AN INTEGRAL PART OF MEETINGS ANDĀ EVENTS, yet the landscape changes faster than most people can keep up. HereĀ are a few things to consider in 2014:
Mobile Apps
Over the last few years, mobile event appsĀ have become a prevalent part of meetings andĀ events. Most significantly, the price pointsĀ have been lowered and there are now appsĀ that fit just about every budget. Attendees areĀ expecting to see them and adoption will onlyĀ increase. There will also be tighter integrationĀ of mobile event apps with existing socialĀ networks so that users donāt have to createĀ yet another login. We will see apps like TopiĀ gain market share as they put an emphasis onĀ networking before the basics like agendas andĀ speaker bios.
Social Media
Event organizers are getting more strategicĀ use of social media. This year we will seeĀ more creative uses of social media platformsĀ like Instagram and Pinterest in addition toĀ the usual Facebook and Twitter. The key hereĀ is planners are starting to understand howĀ these tools work and are using them with betterĀ results.
More Tablets
According to Staples, by next year there willĀ be more than 80 million tablet users in theĀ United States. By placing easy-to-use, easy-tocarryĀ devices in the hands of meeting attendees,Ā planners have much more flexibility in terms ofĀ where they hold meetings and how they distributeĀ content. Thinking about having a session onĀ the beach? Everyone can grab their tablets andĀ bring the presentation with them.Ā
As you can see, the underlying theme is thatĀ social interaction is converging with mobileĀ technology. This trend will make it easierĀ to reach and engage attendees. How do youĀ get started? Take a look at what you want toĀ accomplish and then figure out the tech fromĀ there.
