The City of Rochester selected Knutson Construction as its general contractor for the $85 million Mayo Civic Center (MCC) convention center expansion. The St. Louis Park-based firm won the project with a bid of $71.6 million.
“We are excited to have made this selection and look forward to working with Knutson to get construction underway,” said Donna Drews, executive director of the MCC. “Our intent is to substantially increase the size, scope and frequency of events as we continue to spread the word to attract larger meetings.”
The MCC is set to open in 2017 and will include a 38,800-square-foot ballroom with seating for up to 4,000; a 25,200-square-foot exhibit hall with seating for up to 2,000; a 25,000-square-foot arena with seating for up to 6,000; as well as 23 breakout rooms. The expansion will nearly double the center’s meeting and event space to more than 200,000 square feet available overall.
