Actor-musician Jeff Daniels partnered with Chelsea’s Tannin Property Group to open a new venue called JD’s Stage Bistro in downtown Chelsea in August. Architect and Tannin partner Aaron Vermeulen says he configured the 150-year-old building with stone walls to make way for an intimate live-music performance space with 136 seats, a wine bar, restaurant with wood-fired pizza and shareables, and patio. Several spaces, including The Newsroom, named after the acclaimed HBO drama Daniels starred in, are available for private gatherings of up to 70 seated. Daniels’ daughter-in-law, Amanda Daniels, serves as venue director, with Chef Nate Wegryn helming the kitchen. A Chelsea native, Jeff Daniels also founded the nearby Purple Rose Theatre Co.
