The Saint Paul Hotel sold on May 14 to a St. Paul-based ownership group—including Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold, Securian Financial, Ecolab Inc., and several real estate developers. The historic hotel, which opened in 1910, has two ballrooms, including the larger Promenade Ballroom with space for up to 400 people reception-style. The hotel connects to Saint Paul RiverCentre and Grand Casino Arena via skyway and tunnels. The new ownership group plans extensive improvements to the hotel, including renovating all guest rooms, reimagining the lobby, upgrading the fitness center, and introducing fresh dining and bar experiences. “It is one of the most exciting times in our city’s recent history as St. Paul businesses and leaders continue to come together to invest in a bright future for our downtown,” St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her says in a prepared statement. “This bold investment in one of our city’s most famous landmarks is another great example of this commitment to downtown.”
